Autumn Term  -

Our Newsletter for the Autumn Term can be found at the top of this page.

During the Autumn Term, our topic is Geography based.  We will begin by exploring our local area and beginning to understand how to use a map to locate areas of local interest and then creating our own maps. We will also be exploring local transport links around school and looking at different types of weather. More information regarding our work for this half term can be found in our class newsletter and an overview of our Year 1 curriculum can be found in the 'Curriculum on a Page' document.

*Important Information*

Homework

We are continuing with the Pick and Mix style of homework and all of the children will be required to complete the activities on their Pick and Mix at home (ideally 1 per week) and share them with me via Purple Mash so I can see all of their wonderful work. Homework will no longer come to and from school each week and no homework should be sent to school.  You will find the Autumn Pick and Mix Homework at the top of this page. We will be holding a homework celebration day on Monday 19th December so please ensure that you send some of your child's work to me on Purple mash so we can share it on this day.

Spellings

Spellings will be sent home on a Friday and tested the following Friday. Your child's weekly spellings will be matched to their phonic ability and will be based on the phonic sounds that they have most recently learnt in school.

P.E.

P.E. lessons will be on Thursday and Friday. Please ensure that your child has a full PE in school. If your child wears earrings they will need to be removed by yourself or them prior to the sessions. Children are unable to participate when wearing earrings or any other kind of jewellery.

Clothing

Please ensure that ALL of your child's clothing/shoes are clearly labelled.

Reading Books

Reading books need to be in school every day. Your child will read on specific days each week both individually and as part of Guided Reading sessions. Please ensure that your child reads at least 4 times at home each week and that this is recorded in their planner with any comments you feel are relevant to your child’s reading.

Useful Documents

In the documents posted at the top of this page, you will find Year 1 Knowledge Organisers.  These documents set out and explain all of the key vocabulary that will be covered during your child's time in Year 1, we hope that you find them useful.

Creative Fund

Creative fund will be continuing in Year 1 and Mrs Simmons has passed over any remaining funds to myself which have been used to ensure that there are lots of creative opportunities available for your children in the first few weeks as they settle into Year 1.

In order to provide your children with the variety of snack, baking opportunities and creative consumables we request a contribution of £10 per term or £30 for the full year. They will enjoy baking some tasty treats and as the weather grows colder we will have a nice cup of warm hot chocolate.  We have many activities planned this term that include, seasonal crafts, making and decorating cakes, making monster slime, salt dough constructions and lots more. Please ensure your money is in an envelope clearly labelled with your child’s name and class. Thank you smiley

Please also take the time to look through the Year 1 end-of-year expectations below.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to us.

We look forward to a successful year with your child.
