Home Learning – Friday 15th January

Good Morning Year 1, smiley

Thank you to those of you that were able to join us for the live meeting yesterday and thank you for joining in with our quiz. You were amazing! I am so impressed with how well you are doing with getting online and how sensible you are being when in the meeting. I am super proud.

Well we have made it through another week of home learning and you are doing an exceptional job. I miss you all so very much and it really does make my day when I get to see your lovely faces. heart Thank you also to your adults that are supporting you to get online and at home with your work, they are all superstars! laugh

Its spelling test day today so please ask an adult to test you at home and let me know how you get on. New spellings are on spelling shed today for  your next spelling test next week. Good luck! yes

Maths

Today in maths we are going to have a go at a few questions from everything you have learnt this week. There are only a few questions but it will help to improve your problem solving skills which is really important in maths. You may need a grown up to help you read through the maths problems.

English

In English today we are going to be thinking about the magic medicine that Princess Pearl makes for the King to cure him of his orange fever. Now in real life we wouldn't be able to find the same ingredients as Pearl did as these are only made up for the story. We are going to think about creating our own magic medicine, so for your first task I would like you to look at the sheet with all the the mythical creatures on and think about what you could get from them. For example dragon's breath, fairy dust, or a lions whisker? Make a list of 4 ingredients that you would need for your medicine on the magic medicine sheet.

Before you start to write some instructions about how to make your medicine, either go back to my you tube video where I read the story and stop on the page where Princess Pearl is making the medicine by mixing all the ingredients. If you have the book, then go to this page or alternatively on BBC iplayer, go back to the link from Monday to watch that part of the video. This will help you think about writing your instructions.

Once you have done this and only if you want to, you can draw/colour your medicine in a medicine bottle. I have added all three sheets at the bottom of today's work.

Afternoon Work- Golden time

As it is Friday, we normally have golden time. You have all worked super hard again this week so please find an activity that you enjoy. I have added some ideas for some non screen activities if you want to do any of them, alternatively you may want to just relax and chill with your favourite movie.

Please remember to keep sending me your work on purple mash and have a look at the activities that Miss Jervis and Mrs Downey have set for you too.

Have a safe and restful weekend Year 1 (and adults) and we will see you again next week!

Miss Jewell, Miss Jervis and Mrs Downey xxx heart

For example.

The Mermaid got sunburnt. The doctors gave her some cream and a sun hat

I have attached a document with each character on and a space for you to write underneath. Remember to use your capital letters, finger spaces and full stops when writing. If you can, can you use the word 'and' to join two sentences or words together. Also try and write using your lovely cursive letter formation.

Over the next few weeks we are going to start to create our own gymnastics routine in P.E., how exciting! In order to do this, today I would like you to practise your shapes and rolls. Here are the shapes and rolls that you need to be able to do, they are colour coded with green being the easiest moves and red being more challenging. Please only do the moves that you are comfortable with and do not do forwards or backwards rolls with adult supervision.

There are two Power Points below which show the rolls and shapes if you are unsure what they are, I have attached video clips to demonstrate forwards and backwards rolls. Again, please only do this if you feel confident enough to and if an adult is present, they are totally optional.

Home Learning- Tuesday 5th January

Good morning Year 1 and Happy New Year to you and your families. I very much hope that you have all had a lovely Christmas break.  I am so sorry that we can’t all be back in the classroom together today, I was really looking forward to hearing all about your Christmas holidays and I know that you were all looking forward to seeing each other too. crying

For a short period of time, we are having to go back to home learning. We are doing this to keep you and your families as safe as possible at home as we try to prevent the spread of Coronavirus as much as we can. I know home learning isn’t as fun as being in the classroom and I want nothing more than to be there with you all too! But for the next few weeks I need you to all work as hard as you possibly can for me at home and be really well behaved and listen to your parents as many of them will be trying to work from home which is a real challenge for them too!

So, I will be setting daily work for you which will follow our usual school timetable. I understand that many of you and your parents will be juggling many different things at home so all that I ask of you is that you do what you can of the work when you can and just try your best. I cannot ask any more of you than that and I know you will all make me incredibly proud.smiley

Even though we won't be in class together today, I still want to hear about what you did for Christmas. What presents did you get? What was your favourite present? Did you leave a mince pie and some milk for Santa? I did and when I woke up it was gone! I also left some carrots our for those hungry reindeer, they are very busy on Christmas Eve.

English

Write down or draw what you did for Christmas. You might want to draw a picture of you opening your presents!   I have added a template for you to use but if you can't print it off don't worry just find any piece of paper at home and use that. Take a picture and send it to me on Purple Mash.

Maths

In Maths today I would like you to go to this link http://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/countingCaterpillar/index.html and practise ordering the numbers along the branch 0-20.  Once you have done this, have a go at completing the missing numbers 0-20.

Today I would like you to do a bit of Yoga. Go to this link for a Cosmic Yoga video with Jamie.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR1OxBk8BF4 We have done these in class and you are all very good at these exercises. Ask an adult to take a picture of you and send it to me through purple mash. yes

Please feel free to contact me over Purple Mash (logins are in the front of your planners) during the school day if I can help or assist with anything and of course if you would like to send me over any of your work then I would absolutely love to see it. I have also posted your new Pick and Mix for the Spring Term and our Spring Term newsletter below.

Have a lovely day Year 1, work hard and make me proud!

Love from Miss Jewell xxx heart

Autumn Term

This term, our Geography based topic is ‘Where do, and did the wheels on the bus go?’ which requires us to investigate our local area.  We will be looking at different types of transport and points of interest in our surrounding area. In Science we will be focusing on Animals and Humans, identifying a variety of different animals and also exploring our human senses.

During the first few weeks of term, we will be using specially selected texts from the No Outsiders scheme of work to support the children in settling back into school. We will also be looking at a book called ‘The Colour Monster’ which will provide lots of opportunities for discussions on thoughts, feelings and emotions on returning to school.

Homework

We are changing the way that we set our homework and as of this term, the children will be set a Pick and Mix style homework based on their current topic. All of the children will be required to complete the activities on their Pick and Mix at home (ideally 1 per week) and share them with me via Purple Mash so I can see all of their wonderful work. Homework will no longer come to and from school each week and no homework should be sent in to school.  You will find the Autumn Pick and Mix Homework below.

Spellings

Spellings will be sent home on a Friday and tested the following FridayAccess to the Spelling Shed has been put in the front of your child's reading record. You can use the games on there to practise each week's spellings.

Please ensure that your child is accessing spelling shed to practise their spellings.

Please can you check that you can log into spelling shed using the logins provided in the front of your child's reading planner. Children will be set spellings every week and spellings are dependent on their phonics phase.

Children will play the game to practice the spelling I have set for that week and then we will do a written test every Friday. The results will be communicated via the reading planner so please ensure that your chid has this with them in school every day. Please also encourage your child to access spelling shed frequently throughout the week.

If your child struggles to write the words, I am able to use other resources to deliver the spelling test for them.

Any questions please let me know.

P.E.

Lessons will be on Tuesday and Friday. If your child wears earrings they will need to be removed by yourself or them prior to the sessions. Children are unable to participate when wearing earrings or any other kind of jewellery. All children will also need an outdoor kit (plain joggers/jumper and trainers) PE kits will be sent home every Friday to be washed over the weekend and returned the following Monday.

Clothing

Please ensure that ALL of your child's clothing/shoes are clearly labelled. As the weather will be getting wetter, please can you send your child with a pair of wellies to remain at school so that we can access our outdoor area, even on muddy days.

Reading Books

Reading books need to be in school every day. Your child will read of specific days each week both individually and as part of Guided Reading sessions. Please ensure that your child reads at least 4 times at home each week and that this is recorded in their planner. Please ensure you are signing your child's planner once they have read at home.

Creative Fund

Creative fund will be continuing in Year 1 and Mrs Simmons has passed over any remaining funds to myself which have been used to ensure that there are lots of creative opportunities available for your children in the first few weeks as they settle into Year 1.

In order to provide your children with the variety of snack, baking opportunities and creative consumables we request a contribution of £10 per term or £30 for the full year.
