Year 1

Home Learning

Hi Year 1,

I hope you are all happy and well at home. I know this may seem really strange us not being in school everyday but I am still going to be sending you work tasks to do at home on a daily basis. So, find yourself a comfortable space to work, grab the workbook you brought home from school and get ready to learn from your new 'school at home'.

Use the 'Suggested Daily Timetable' to help you structure your day and the 'Pick n Mix' document for your afternoon activities. Each morning I will be posting an English/Maths task here on our class web page for you to complete.

Keep logging into Spelling Shed and (with help from your parents) set up an account to Oxford Owl (the link is below) Here you will be able to read lots of books from our reading scheme and there are some activities for you to complete after reading each book too.

Take care and see you soon

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

Well it's finally here, the last week of school. I can't believe it has come around so quickly. It has been a strange year for you all and the last time we were all together was back in March. crying I have missed the time we haven't been able to spend together but over the past few weeks I have been lucky enough to see lots of you back in school. For those of you who haven't returned, I miss you so very much and know that I will get to see you again in September as you move into Year 2. Please wave to me as you walk past the classroom as I will be welcoming the reception children into Year 1. When you came into Year 1 in September 2019, you seemed so little and now you've all grown up and learnt so much. I am so proud of each and every single one of you! You have adapted and changed to a very unusual situation and you have done it so sensibly. We have had a really lovely time together and I will cherish every day we spent together. Myself, Miss Jervis and Miss Tandy shared some lovely memories of working with you the other day and one of my favourites was the Nativity. You were AMAZING! We have made lots of lovely memories together but now you are all now ready to continue your learning in Year 2 with Mrs Sharrock. She will take very good care of you and is an amazing teacher!!! I LOVE working with her and I know you will too. She has lots of fun things planned for you once you are all back in school. So enjoy the summer break and look forward to starting in Year 2, I promise you will have the BEST time! heartheartheart

Mrs Sharrock has made a short video to explain a bit about being in Year 2 so head to this link and take a look

Daily Learning Tasks Monday 13th July

In Maths this week I have uploaded some fun maths activities. For each day, choose an activity to complete from the booklet and have some fun, you have worked so hard the past two weeks with all the problem solving. I have added the activity booklet to Monday's lessons.

In English today you are going to write a letter to Mrs Sharrock telling her all about you, the things you enjoy doing and some of the things you are looking forward to in Year 2. Here is a guide to help you set out your letter.

1. First of all, describe yourself to Mrs Sharrock. Tell her about your family and the things that you enjoy doing both in and out of school.

2. After that, write about the things that you enjoy learning about at school. Also tell Mrs Sharrock about something that you are looking forward to in Year 2.

3. Finally, tell Mrs Sharrock something that you would like to get better at doing as you move into Year 2. How are you going to achieve it?

You might also want to ask Mrs Sharrock some questions, so if you do, remember to add a question mark.

**Please write your letters straight into your workbooks**

You can also contact Mrs Sharrock on Purple Mash, just choose her name from the email. You might want to say hello or ask her any questions you might have.

Have a lovely day Year 1 smiley

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

How are you all? Its our last day tomorrow and even though I'm a little sad, I'm happy that you will be moving on in your journey to Year 2.

In Maths, please choose an activity from the booklet I uploaded on Monday.

In English today I would like you to think about next year. Have a think about what you are looking forward to the most and also anything you might be a little bit worried about. It's perfectly ok to be a little worried about moving onto something new. It can feel scary when you don't know what your new journey will be like but have a think about how you felt leaving reception and coming into Year 1, you ended up having a lovely time. If you do feel worried at all, please tell a grown up, message me or Mrs Sharrock on Purple Mash. I promise you, its never as scary as you think it will be.

Good Morning Year 1

Well it's our last day before we finish for the summer. crying Its also a sad day because Mr Welsh is leaving too. You have all been so amazing Year 1 and it really was an amazing year. Myself, Miss Jervis, Mr Welsh and Miss Tandy are so proud of everything you have all achieved. You really have amazed me with your knowledge and how hard you have all worked. I want to say a special thank you to your grown ups too for supporting you with the online learning, they have been AMAZING!

For Maths today, choose an activity from the booklet I uploaded on Monday.

For English today I would like you to draw 2 pictures please. One for Mrs Sharrock and one for me to keep. For those of you at home, please send me your pictures on Purple Mash. Your pictures can be of anything, take your time and make it as special as you can.

Thank you to Mr Welsh and Miss Jervis for looking after those of you that have been in the Year 1 classroom, they have done a wonderful job and you have been so well behaved and sensible.

Over the summer I will be checking my emails occasionally so if you want to say hello or send me anything on Purple Mash I would love to see it, if you want to send something to Mrs Sharrock then that would be fantastic too. Don't feel you have to, it's only if you want to.

There isn't much else to say except thank you for being such an amazing Year 1 class for the 19-20 Academic Year.

Keep safe and well over the summer and I will see you when you return in September. yes

Take care Year 1

Daily Learning Tasks Week Beginning 6th July

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

Did you have a lovely weekend? I went out for a walk yesterday in a beautiful place called Brodsworth Hall and Gardens in Yorkshire. It was a lovely day and I saw lots of beautiful plants and flowers. I hope you all had a lovely weekend too. We only have one more week of learning after this week before we finish for summer on the 17th July. I'm sad that we haven't all had the chance to work together since March, I have missed you all so very much. crying I know Mr Welsh has done a fantastic job taking care of those of you working in the Year 1 classroom.  For those of you in school, its lovely to see your happy faces every day and I'm lucky that I have had the chance to spend some time with some of you. For those of you not returning until September I miss you all, it has gone so fast since March and now its July.

Maths

For the maths lessons this week we are going to be practising everything that we have learned in Year 1 by doing some more problem solving. Each day will be a different focus but will be work that we have already covered. Being able to apply your maths knowledge to solving a problem is a fantastic skill but it’s also a skill that can be tricky at first and you must make sure you read the whole problem carefully. Ask a grown up or older sibling to help you read the maths problems. We have already done a week on Maths problems and having spoken to Mr Welsh; he has said that you all did brilliantly! The Year 1 children working with me in Year 3 have also done a fantastic job. Well done to those of you at home too by completing all the work I have set for you. If you need any help at all, please message me on Purple Mash.smiley

After you have practised matching the correct times, have a look at the work I have set for you. Remember to read each question carefully before you answer.

English

Today you are going to be writing Mr Grinlings diary. What is a diary? Why do people write diaries?

A diary is something that people write in to talk about people, places and events. A diary is used to share thoughts and feelings about these things.

Why would Mr Grinling write a diary about his week? Well it was a very busy and dramatic week with the sandwiches being eaten by the seagulls and all the plans that Mrs Grinling thought of to try and stop them. He would want to write down his thoughts and feelings about everything that happened over the week.

Have a look at my example of Mr Grinlings diary for the week. Is everything written in order? Remember you need to start writing about Monday and then write about what happened on the other days too. When you write, you need to include how Mr Grinling was feeling about the events that were happening. You are writing this diary as though you are Mr Grinling you so you will need to use ‘I’. I have added two word mats to help you.

**Please write your diary entries straight into your workbooks**

This week in Maths we are going to be learning about place value within 100. First I would like you to recap numbers up to 50. Go to this link https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/paint-the-squares

Choose the 1-50 grid and then using your knowledge of counting in 2, 5 and 10. Highlight all the numbers patterns up to 50. Start with 2s, then 5s then 10s.

Once you have recapped your knowledge of counting within 50, I want you to go through the presentation with a grown up please. Today you are going to be identifying numbers within 50 and completing missing number lines within 50.

After you have had a look at the presentation, I would like you to have a look at the work I have set for you. There are two sheets to complete today. The first is to identify the number being represented by the pictures and then I would like you complete the missing number lines. Today in Maths you are going to be partitioning numbers (splitting them up).  We have already done this in class so this is a recap for you.  The first thing I would like you to do is to go to this place value Shark numbers game. Look at the numbers represented by the base 10 and then choose the right number to match it from underneath.

http://www.ictgames.com/sharkNumbers/mobile/index.html

After you have done this, I would like you to go through the presentation with a grown up and go to lesson 2. Using the base 10 game from earlier, use this to represent the numbers from the presentation please. Once you have gone through the lesson for today, have a look at the work I have set for you. I know that you probably won’t have base 10 equipment at home so please use this Base 10 activity to help you create the numbers visually.

In the story the Mermaid decides to go and live at the circus Why does she do this? Can you create a poster advertising the Mermaid’s act? You might want to draw the Mermaid on the front and say how amazing she is. Your poster needs to make people want to come and see the AMAZING SINGING MERMAID!

How are you all? It has been lovely being back in school but is isn't the same without everyone there. For those of you not in school, we miss you lots and hope you are all ok.

According to the weather report, it is going to be very hot and sunny over the next couple of days so please make sure you are staying safe whilst out in the sun. A hat, sunglasses and sun cream will be essential!

Maths

How did you get on with partitioning numbers yesterday? First job I would like you to do today is to play Base 10 Bingo follow the link below, choose tens and ones and a 3x3 grid to set up your game. You will then be shown some numbers using base 10 and you must see if you have the matching numbers on your bingo board. If you do, then select the number that matches.

https://www.abcya.com/games/base_ten_bingo

After you have played this game, I would like you go to the presentation and find lesson 3 with your grown up. Once you have done this, have a look at the work I have set for you. There are 3 levels of difficulty so please choose the one you feel most comfortable doing. You can draw the part whole model in your workbooks and then partition the whole numbers into tens and units. Remember to use the base 10 activity to help you if you are finding it tricky.

English

If you were going to perform in a circus, what act would you like to do? Would you need any special skills for your act, such as the ability to juggle, weight lift or balance? In your workbooks I want you to draw yourself as an act in a circus and then explain what your special skill is. Watch this video in Espresso to give you some ideas.

Good Morning Year 1  smiley

How did you get on yesterday? Some of those numbers are tricky. I know you are all super clever and will be trying your very hardest. Don’t worry if you are finding it tricky, counting within 100 can be tricky. Just try your best.

Today in maths we are going to be comparing numbers. First, I would like you to go to this game and practise making numbers within 100. Choose the tab that says T O for Tens and Ones. The game will ask you to make a number within 100 by choosing the correct amount of tens and ones.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/place-value/place-value-chart

Once you have played this game, I would like you to go to the lesson presentation and find lesson 4. Once you have done this have a look at the work that I have set for you today. You will be using the symbols to show greater than and less than to compare the numbers that are shown. First you need to find the numbers that are shown and then complete the number sentences. If you are finding using the symbols tricky then use ‘more than and less than’ when explaining the difference between the numbers.

English

In the story, Sam Sly convinced the Mermaid that she should perform at the circus. Her friends tried to stop her from going, but she didn’t listen to them. Can you write a letter to the Mermaid persuading her not to go to the circus?

Think about why her friends wouldn’t want her to go. What can you write in your letter to make her stay in Silver sands?

Daily Learning Tasks Friday 26th June

Good Morning Year 1smiley

I can’t believe it is Friday again already. These weeks just go so quickly! Well done on all your hard work this week, you are all little superstars! laugh

How warm has it been the past two days? Oh my goodness I love being in the sunshine but it was very hot. I hope you all kept safe in the sun and if you did go outside and that you found some shade when the sun was especially hot around lunchtime. I think the weather is supposed to change now and it will rain but it will also cool down so if you've been struggling to sleep in the heat, it should be more comfortable for you soon.

Its spelling test day today so please ask an older sibling or grown up to test you on your spellings. Your new spellings are also on spelling shed.

Today in maths we are going to be practising the skills we have been using this week when partitioning 2-digit numbers.

I have chosen 2 games for you to practise. Go to the links below and have a play.

In this first game you have to partition the number on the screen into tens and ones so if it showed number 43 you would choose 40 + 3 = 43

http://www.snappymaths.com/counting/placevalue/interactive/partto100imm/partto100imm.htm

In this second game you are going to be catching bugs with Curious George and deciding if there are more or less of a particular colour. You have to make your guess before George starts catching the bugs.

https://pbskids.org/curiousgeorge/busyday/bugs/

English

If you could be a mermaid for a day, and have your very own tail, where would you swim and what would you do? In your workbooks I would like you to write where you would go and why? Why would it be good to have a tail to swim through the water? Which animals have tails to help them swim?

Have a lovely weekend Year 1 smiley

I know some more of you are returning to school on Monday so I will come and see you in the Year 1 classroom as I am in the Year 3 classroom with some of your friends. I really do wish we could all be together. crying

For those of you still working at home, please keep in touch through Purple Mash, I really do love hearing from you and I miss you all lots.

Stay safe and happy

I will speak to you again on Monday

Daily Learning Tasks Week Beginning 15th June

Good Morning Year 1

I hope you've had a lovely weekend. smiley

So today you will be able to see the work for every day this week with the work below it. I will still be sending messages to see how you are all doing but we have changed the way we post the work slightly so that you and your grown ups can see how your learning will progress over the week. Please make sure you are checking the work is for the right day. Your grown ups will help you with this.  If you have any questions, please contact me on Purple Mash.

Maths

***For Wednesday’s lesson you are going to need the following items if you have them please. ***

  • Lego/building bricks
  • 2 empty plastic bottles (the same size)
  • String
  • Ruler
  • Scissors

English

This week we are going to be looking at the book ‘What the Ladybird heard at the Seaside’ by Julia Donaldson. We are familiar with some of these characters as we have read ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ story already and I know we all enjoyed it.

If you have a copy of this book at home then that’s great, if not here is the link to the story being read aloud on You Tube.

https://youtu.be/PvguZ1YvKLw

*I have also set some Maths and English 2Do's on Purple Mash linked to this week's activities*

*Please have a look when you can*

*Also please remember to use the new Pick and Mix I uploaded last week on Plants and Seasons for your afternoon work*

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

This week in Maths we are going to be learning about Fractions.  First, I would like you to recap naming 2D Shapes in this 2D shape game. Go to this link https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/shiftingShapes/index.html

In this game you have to guess the name of the shape by inly being able to see a small part of the shape, Once you've made your guess, click the eye and it will show you if you are correct.

After you have recapped your knowledge of 2D shapes, we are going to be finding half of a shape. Have a look at the presentation below with a grown up about how to find half of a shape. After you have done this, I want you to have a go at finding half of a shape. Have a look at the worksheet below. I want you to cut out the shapes and then fold them in half.  Don’t worry if you can’t print the sheet, draw the shapes yourself nice and big, cut them out and then fold them in half. Draw a line where you have folded them.

In English today the first activity I would like you to do today is to read/listen to the story. How is it similar or different to the story we have already read? Are any of the characters the same? What happens in this story?

Once you are familiar with the story, I would like you to think about the two bad men, Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len. In the Story they tried to steal something that didn’t belong to them. Can you make a wanted poster for them, detailing their attempted crimes? Remember to describe each of the characters so that they can be found. I have added some templates for the Wanted posters and a word mat to help you.

Maths

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

How did you get on with the finding half of a shape yesterday? Today we are going to be finding half in different ways. First, I would like you have a go at identifying half or not half of a shape. Go to this link http://www.snappymaths.com/counting/fractions/interactive/halfornotimm/halfornotimm.htm

In this game you have to decide of the shape has been cut in half or not and then choose half or not half at the bottom of the screen.

After you have played this game, we are going to be finding half in different ways today. Have a look at the presentation below with a grown up and then have a look at the ‘Rocket Riddle’ worksheet I have set for you. You have to colour half of the lights on the rocket in green. How many ways can you colour half ½? Don’t worry if you can’t print the sheet. Draw how many rectangles are half in your workbooks instead and colour them in green.

English

In the story, the ladybird came up with a plan to stop the robbers from stealing the mermaid’s hair. What was the plan? Did it work?

In your workbooks you can draw the plan that the robbers were going to use, or you can draw a picture and write a short sentence about each stage of the plan.  At the bottom of your work I want you write if the plan worked or not.

Did you hear all the thunder and lightning yesterday? It was very loud, and the rain was very heavy. I hope you were all safe and dry inside!

Today in Maths you are going to need the items I mentioned at the start of the week.  We are going to be finding half of a quantity, weight or measure. First I would like you to play a fraction game. Go to this link and have a go!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/games/embed/karate-cats-2?exitGameUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fbbc.co.uk%2Fbitesize%2Farticles%2Fzf4sscw

Once you have played this game, go through the presentation below with a grown up about finding half of a quantity, weight or measure. Then have a look at the work I have set for you. This is when you will need the items I mentioned. Don’t worry about using balance scales to weigh out bricks, use your knowledge of sharing to share 16 bricks into two equal groups.

English

If the ladybird had asked you for help in the story how would you have tried to stop the robbers from stealing the mermaid’s hair? Can you make your own plan?

Today in Maths we are going to be finding half of a set of objects. Have a look at the presentation with a grown up. Once you have gone through this, have a look at the work I have set for you. Don’t worry about printing the sheet you can draw the treasure items instead in your workbooks. Can you share the Pirate Treasure fairly so that Pirate Jack and Pirate Jenny get the same amount?

English

In the story the mermaid was very thankful to the ladybird for stopping the robbers from stealing her hair. Can you write a thank you note from the mermaid to the ladybird, thanking him for his help?

Its Friday again, well done on getting through another busy week of learning. Don't forget its spelling test day today so please ask an older sibling or a grown up to test you on your spellings. Your new spellings are also on spelling shed. Good luck!

Today in Maths we are going to use all the knowledge we have gained about finding half ½ and use it for todays worksheet on sharing lunch. First job is to go through the lesson presentation with a grown up and then have a look at the work I have set for you.

English

At the end of the story the robbers, Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len realise that their plan hasn’t worked, and they were tricked again. Where do you think they went next? Do you think they ever tried to steal again? Write down what you think happened to these bad men.

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

How did it get to Friday already? This week has gone so quickly! Today is spelling test day so please ask an older sibling or grown up to test you on your spellings today.  Your new spellings are also on for next week too. Good Luck!

In maths today we are going to start with a fishing game using our knowledge of doubles. Choose level 1 (Recall and use doubles of numbers up to 10) You have to cast your fishing line into the water and wait for a fish to grab the bait and then pull the rod. The game will then bring up some questions on doubles for you to answer. If you get the answers right, you catch the fish.

Go to this link to play https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/306/Maths-Fishing-Multiplication

After you have played this game have a look at these maths activity mats, all the questions on them are things we have already learnt. There are 4 mats to choose from, some slightly harder than the others so choose the one you feel most comfortable with. Don’t worry about printing the sheet, just draw the answers in your workbook.

In English today I asked if you could make sure you had a plastic bag. Today I would like you to make your own Jellyfish out of your plastic bag. You can make it however you want; it doesn’t have to look like Stanley. If you don't have a plastic bag please don't worry, just make your jellyfish out of something that you would be able to recycle.  Please send me a picture of your Jellyfish I would love to see them. laugh

Next week there is going to be a slight change as to how I post your work. I will be putting all your work for the week on our webpage so on Monday you will be able to see all your daily tasks for the forthcoming week. It will still be separated into each day with the documents underneath, but it will allow you to see what is being covered throughout the week and give you more flexibility on completing the work if you need it.

Have a lovely weekend Year 1 and thank you for working so hard. You make me feel very proud of you all. smiley

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

How have you been getting on this week? The weather hasn't been brilliant has it? Oh well I hope you can still get chance to get outside and get some fresh air. How are your grown ups? Are you making sure you are being super helpful around the house. Little jobs like keeping your room tidy or helping to clear the table after eating are really helpful and your grown ups will really appreciate it.

Have you had chance to have a look at the new Pick and Mix activities yet? Don't worry if you haven't just have a look when you can.

Today in Maths we are going to recap odd and even numbers. Odd numbers end in 1,3,5,7 and 9 and even numbers end in 0,2,4,6 and 8. Lets start with a game. Go to this link https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/coconut-odd-or-even and identify odd and even numbers on coconuts within 20. 50 or even 100 if you want a challenge!

Once you have played this game, have a look at the work I have set. There are 2 sheets to choose from.

If you choose the caterpillar work then write the even numbers in green and the odd numbers in blue in your workbooks please.

Today in English we are going to think about recycling, specifically plastic bottles. Have a look at the recycling sequence pictures with a grown up and see if you can put them in order of what happens. Don't worry about printing the pictures you can always draw the pictures in your workbooks and then choose the correct sentence to describe what is happening.

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

How are you all? I miss you lots and lots. I know you are all missing being with your friends and family, try and make sure you keep in contact with them. There are lots of ways to contact your friends and family, its good to see their faces or hear their voices. I face time my family every day so we can talk. I am here if you want to talk to me too, just send me an email on Purple Mash.

I have added a new Pick and Mix for you to have a look at and it is all about Plants and Seasons. Have a look and try and pick an activity for your afternoon work. Some of these activities may take more than one afternoon so just take your time. I have also added some links to Espresso and You Tube to help you. yes If you need any help just send me an email.

Today in Maths we are going to start with a number word matching game. You have to drag the number word to the correct 2 digit number and place it on top of it. Go to this link to have a go http://www.crickweb.co.uk/ks1numeracy.html

After you have done this, I want you to have a look at the questions I have set for you. They are a mixture of multiplication and division questions to check your understanding of the work we have been doing recently.  You might need some help from a grown up or an older sibling to read the questions. Just write the question number in your workbooks and then the answer. You will be drawing your answers too so don't do them too big. There are quite a few questions so you don't have to do all of them but try and do at least 3 please. If you need any help remembering what we have been doing then have a quick look back through the multiplication and division work we have been doing over the past week.

In English we are carrying on with our lovely book, Somebody Swallowed Stanley. Have you worked out what Stanley is now? That's right, he's a plastic bag! How did he get into the sea? Do plastic bags belong in our sea? Today I would like you to think about pollution. This means that lots of items that don't belong in our sea end up there because people don't take their rubbish away with them when they have visited the seaside. Sadly, this rubbish ends up in our oceans and our beautiful sea animals think it is food. This is what happened to Stanley. crying

How can we stop plastic hurting wildlife and polluting our seas? Have a look at this poster. I would like you to draw pictures on your own poster to encourage people to stop littering. I have given you 4 ideas already, can you think of another good idea to help stop littering?

For our lesson on Friday I would you to get a plastic bag please. Ask a grown up if they can find one for you.

Have a lovely day today Year 1.

Good Morning Year 1

I hope you had a lovely day yesterday, thankyou for those of you who sent me your posters of the sea animals today they are amazing! You have done such fantastic work, I am very proud. smiley  For those of you in school today, well done on being so grown up and sensible. Mr Welsh, Mrs Freeney and Miss Jervis all told me just how hard working you have all been. Keep this up!

In Maths today we are going to start with a game. This is called, Post your Letter and you have to listen to the number being said and then choose the door with the matching number to post your letter. Go to this link to play https://www.ictgames.com/postAletter/index.html

Choose the number range 1-29 first and then choose bigger numbers as you feel more confident.

After you have played this game, I would like you to watch this video about dividing by grouping objects. When we divide or share objects we use a special symbol just like we do when we are multiplying. https://youtu.be/linbjLi2K5s

Once you have watched this video, have a look a the questions I have attached for you. Remember you can use any equipment you have at home to help you.

In English today and following on from World Oceans Day yesterday we are going to start a lovely book called

'Somebody Swallowed Stanley'

Go to this video to watch and listen to the story being read. https://youtu.be/uf4b4no8ric and once you have done this I would like you to have a think about how Stanley might have got into the sea? In your workbooks, draw a picture of Stanley and write your ideas underneath it. Stanley is no ordinary jellyfish? What is he? Why do you think he ended up in the sea? Ask your grown ups what they think too. yes

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

Welcome back to another week of learning. I know some of you will be returning to school today to our Year 1 classroom. It will look different to how you remember it and I won't be there as I am still working from home. Mr Welsh and Miss Jervis will be there to look after those of you coming into school and I will keep setting the work online for everyone. Everyone will still be doing the same work. Those of you staying at home like me, then carry on accessing the work I set for you and doing it in your workbooks.

In maths this week we are going to move onto learning about division. We are going to start our learning by sharing objects into equal groups.

First I would like you to watch this video about sharing on Espresso (Login is student22316 abc123)

https://central.espresso.co.uk/espresso/primary_uk/subject/module/video/item809400/grade1/module784709/index.html

Once you have watched this video I would like you to go through the presentation I have attached with a grown up. After you have done this I have chosen a game for you to play which is sharing dog treats equally with Curious George the monkey. Go to this link and follow the instructions.  https://pbskids.org/curiousgeorge/busyday/dogs/

Once you have played this game I would like you to have a go at some questions. You can use anything you have at home to help with you with sharing. There are 2 lots of questions to have a go at, the first is sharing equally between 2 so start with this and once you feel confident, move onto sharing between 5 and 10 too. Write the answers in your work books please.

In English we are going to be learning about World Oceans Day. First I would like you to watch this amazing video from the BBC Blue Planet series which shows all the amazing wildlife that live in our Oceans.

https://youtu.be/kAphgHhlteM

After you have watched this beautiful video, I would like you to go through the presentation about World Oceans Day with a grown up.

Today I would like you to choose one of the the marine animals from the presentation and create a poster about it.

There are 5 animals to choose from.

A Tiger shark, a Green turtle, a Japanese spider crab, a Bottlenose dolphin and a Sea pig.

Choose the marine animal you like the most or find the most interesting/unusual and then create a poster. Draw your animal and then write some facts on your poster. I have added facts for each animal for you to choose from. have a look at the bottom of the page for all the different animal facts. You can create your poster however you would like, just make sure that you include some facts on it.

You don't have to use all the facts I have given you.

If you want  to learn more about World Oceans Day then go to this link https://worldoceanday.school/

Have a lovely Monday Year 1, please keep in touch on Purple Mash I do really love hearing from you. I will be uploading a new Pick and Mix on Wednesday to give you chance to finish off any activities that you haven't yet done. Don't worry if you still have some to do just take your time and do them when you can.

Those of you in school today, have a lovely day with Mr Welsh and Miss Jervis.

Good Morning Year 1 and Happy Friday! smiley

I can't believe its Friday already! the week has flown by so quickly. I wish the miserable rain would go away and the warm sunshine would return. Keep your fingers crossed that it will return soon for us. I didn't set any spellings over the half term break as I wanted you to have a well earned rest, however there are now new spellings on spelling shed for next week so please have a look.

This week in Maths you have been looking at arrays and repeated addition. Today we are going to look at the multiplication symbol which is what we use to add lots of groups of objects rather than writing out a very long number sentence.

First I would like you to go to this link and watch the video about repeated addition as multiplication. Once you have watched this video have a look at the work I have set for you. For each question I would like you to write the repeated addition number sentence and then write the multiplication number sentences using the multiplication symbol. The first one has already been done for you.

https://www.mathswithmum.com/multiplication-as-repeated-addition/

Well done on working hard this week building up to writing a story. Today I would like you to read back through your work and with a different coloured pen, I would like you to edit it. This is a skill that you will be using when you move up into Year 2. Do you have a capital letter at the start of every sentence? Do you have a full stop at the end of every sentence? Have you spelt the Year 1 common exception words correctly? Take a look back at the writing checklist from yesterday and the common exception words to help you with your editing.  This is tricky work so don't worry if you find it difficult, this is something that I will be encouraging you to do more and more in your writing.

Good Morning Year 1smiley

Well yesterday was a bit grey and rainy wasn’t it, I hope you kept safe and dry at home. It’s a shame the beautiful weather has changed; I really hope the lovely warm weather will return soon.

Today in maths we are going to start by practising our addition skills within 20. I have chosen a mini golf addition game for you to play. You must answer the addition questions and then hit the ball into the hole.

https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/549/Addition-Mini-Maths-Golf

Yesterday in maths you looked at arrays, this is organising objects in a specific way to make them easier to count. The work I gave you yesterday just looked at objects in rows, today I want you to look at the objects set out as rows and columns. This will enable you to write two different numbers sentences.

Have a look at today’s presentation with a grown up and then have a look at the work I have set for you. For each array that is represented, I want you to look at the rows and columns and then write a number sentence for each one. The answer will be the same but the way you represent the sentence will be different. The first one has already been completed for you. Have a look at each array, draw it in your books and then complete the rest of the table.

In English, you were busy planning your stories yesterday. Well today you are going to write your own version of Bob (The man on the moon) including all the things you have planned. I have added a word mat and writing checklist to help you with your writing. Good Luck! I can't wait to read your space stories yes

Once you have done this, have a look at the presentation I have attached for you with a grown up. We are going to be looking at arrays. An array is a way of organising objects or dots in an easier way so that we can count them. Watch this video on Espresso which will explain it a bit more for you.

After you have watched the video and gone through the presentation, have a look at the arrays I have given you and identify how many rows there are, write a repeated number sentence and then how many objects there are altogether. Use the pictures to help you.

I hope you enjoyed designing and describing your planets yesterday, today we are going to plan our own story of Bob but using the alien character and planet you have designed. In a story there is usually a problem that happens that needs to be resolved. I your own stories you will have top think of a problem. Is there a problem with the alien, with Bob or even the planet? The more interesting the problem, the more exciting the story will be. Use the story of Bob the man on the moon to help you set up your story but you will be changing what happens.

I have added some story maps to help you set your work out, but you can set it out however you want. Plan out the detail of your story because tomorrow you will be writing it.

Have a lovely day today Year 1, I think it is going to rain but my garden and my flowers definitely need a drink after all the lovely warm weather.

Speak to you again tomorrow.

Daily Learning Tasks Tuesday 2nd June

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

I hope you had a good first day yesterday and enjoyed getting back into work. I hear the weather is going to change this week and be a bit more grey and miserable so make sure you are out enjoying the sunshine while it lasts.

Today in Maths we are going to start by practising matching numbers to their number words. Go to this link and see how well you can do, It will show you a range of numbers up to 100.

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/interactives/24442.html

After you have done this, please ask a grown up to help you go through the presentation I have attached. This will go through how to add equal groups and how to write a repeated addition number sentence.

Once you have done this, have a look at the work I have attached for you. I have added an example of how to set this out in your workbooks too. In class we would be able to stick the images in our books and draw/write the repeated addition number sentences next to it. Don't worry about doing this at home just choose the picture and write the number sentence in your books.

In English, I would like you to take a look at this image of the Solar System. Look at all the different planets and how they are different from each other. Today you are going to design and describe your own planet that Bob is going to visit.

Draw your planet in your workbooks and then write some describing sentences using the adjective word cards I have attached and also any additional words that you can think of yourself.

I have also set a grammar 2Do on Purple mash which will practice adding suffixes to the ends of words. Have a look at it and let me know how you get on.

Have a lovely day Year 1

Speak to you again tomorrow.

Daily Learning Tasks Monday 1st June

Good Morning Year 1,

Have you had a lovely half term, the weather has been beautiful hasn't it? I really hope you've had a well deserved break and are ready to start our last half term. It's now June, I can't believe how quickly the months are flying by. I have missed you so much! I am sure you are all safe and well at home, I hope you are happy, it's difficult not being able to see our family and friends and its been quite a long time now. It won't be like this forever and things will change eventually.  How are you getting on with the toys Pick and Mix? I will be sending a new one next week but don't worry if you haven't done all the activities on this one,  just do it at your own pace.

In maths this week we are going to start Multiplication. I know how good you are all with your numbers so I know you are going to be good with this. First we are going to start by counting in multiples of 2, 5 and 10. Go to this link and choose a colour to select all the multiples. Start with 10s then 5's then 2's.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/paint-the-squares

After you have done this, ask a grown up to help you go through the presentation I have attached about making equal groups. Once you have had a look at this I want you to have a look at the questions I have attached. There are a few questions that start off quite easy and get harder. Challenge yourself and have a go at the harder questions too.

In English, we are going to carry on with Man on the Moon and today I would like you to create and draw/paint/make your own alien character for the book. You can make this as crazy or as funny and unusual as you want.  Draw your alien character in your book or if you make or paint one then take a picture for me and send it on Purple Mash. Once you have created your character, I would like you to write some describing sentences in your workbooks please. I have added an alien word mat to help you.

Have a lovely day year 1, it's so good to be back talking to you everyday. I really have missed you smiley

Daily Learning Tasks Friday 22nd May

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

I can't believe its finally Friday and the last day of this half term! You have worked so incredibly hard and I am so very proud of all of you. Next week I want you to take a well deserved break from learning.

Today in Maths we are going to start with a game. This is a smoothie maths game and you can choose what you want to do. I would start with number facts within 10 and then move onto number facts within 20. Each number sentences you complete will fill up the blender with an item to make a smoothie. Go to this link to play

https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/smoothie/index.html

Once you have played this game please have a look a the challenge cards I have attached for you. There are numbers bonds within 10, 20 and some addition and subtraction cards too. Have a go! Write the number sentences in your workbook please.  smiley

In English I would like you imagine you are an astronaut like Bob, and you are standing on the moon looking at planet Earth. Using your senses, I want you to think about what you can see, hear, smell touch and taste while you are stood there. We will be carrying on with Man on the Moon after half term as there are lots of activities we can do with this book. yes

Today is also spelling test day, so please ask an older sibling or a grown up to test you on this week spellings.

Have a really lovely half term Year 1, I miss you all lots and I know you have been working so hard while we haven't been in school. You all deserve a break from learning. Find some fun things to do that you enjoy maybe listening to music, playing games, making things or watching films, whatever it is Year 1 have fun and relax. laugh

I will speak to you again soon. Take care and stay safe and well. smiley

Daily Learning Tasks Thursday 21st May

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

I can't believe its already Thursday today, how quickly is this week going? Only one more day and then you can have a well deserved break on what would have been our May half term holiday. How beautiful was the weather yesterday? It was very hot and I made sure that I put sun cream on when I was outside. I hope you did too because the sun is very strong at this time of year and your skin can burn very easily.

Today in Maths we are going to start with a robot addition game. Go to this link

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/addition/robot-addition and start by choosing the addition number sentences up to 10. IN this game you have to match the addition number sentences to the correct number. Once you feel confident increase the numbers up to 15 and then 20 if you want! You are all so clever and brilliant at addition I know you will be amazing at this!

After you have played this game we are going to be adding by counting on. Watch the video I have attached at the bottom of today's work and then have a look at the work I have set. I have given the option of a variety of work so choose the one you feel confident doing and write the number sentences in your workbooks please. Remember the short date 21.5.20. I have also added a number line to help you. You can make your own number line at home using a ruler or anything that you can make a straight line with. Draw a line and then label each interval up to 10 20 or 30.

In English I would like to watch the video of Man on the Moon or read the book again and today we are going to create a story map of Bob's day. (Go to the you tube link from Wednesday) We have done lots of story maps in school and sequencing stories so I know you are already very good at this. I have attached a template for you but you can set it out in your workbooks however you want. Remember to put the story in order of what Bob does otherwise it won't make sense.

Addition by counting on

Daily Learning Tasks Wednesday 20th May

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

I hear today is the day it is supposed to be warm and sunny. I really hope that it is and that you can get chance to be outside. Thankyou for the lovely emails on Purple Mash, I really do love hearing from you and seeing pictures of the things you have been doing.

Today in maths we are going to start by finding the correct number in a rocket game. Go to this link

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/blast-off

choose the red 'find a number tab', then the 'direct' column and then choose the range of numbers you want to try. I would start with 10-20 and if you want you can choose to increase the numbers as you play.

Once you have played this game we are going to move onto doing number fact families. This is a group of number facts that all work together and with the numbers in the group you can do addition and subtraction number sentences. First I would like you to watch the video I have attached at the bottom of today's work with a grown up.

Once you have watched the video about number fact families I would like you to go to this link

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/number-facts/number-fact-families and choose the orange tab, + and - and start with numbers up to 10. Once you have completed the number families up to 10, then move onto the number families up to 20, if you feel confident.

After you have played this game, look at the work I have set for you. I have set work finding number families up to 10 and up to 20 so choose the one you feel most confident doing. Write the 4 number sentences in your workbook and remember to use + and - and = to show your number sentences just like the game does. When doing subtraction you must start with the biggest number and take away the smaller numbers. For each number family on the work there are only 3 numbers to use to create the 4 different number sentences.

In English today I am going to tell you what the book we are reading if you don't already know.. Its.……

The Man on the Moon ( a day in the life of Bob) By Simon Bartram

The first thing I would like you to do today is to go to this link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt5zQ1UO6rE  and listen to the story with a grown up. If you have this book then brilliant, read the book. As you are listening, please think about what Bob is like as a character becasue you will be creating a character profile for him. What sort of person is he? How does he dress at home and at work? Is he kind and helpful? Can you find an interesting fact about Bob? Maybe what he likes to eat?

I have attached a template for how you can set the work out in your books and a word mat for those tricky space words. Remember the long date and use your capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. Also try and join your sentences using 'and' and 'because'. I LOVE this book and I hope you will enjoy it too heart

Have a lovely day Year 1 and I will speak to you again tomorrow.

Fact families - linking addition and subtraction

Daily Learning Tasks Tuesday 19th May

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

It was a bit grey and overcast yesterday, I really hope the sunshine shows up soon. I hope you enjoyed getting back into another week of learning yesterday. I miss you lots and am extremely proud of how well you are all doing.

Today in maths we are going to start by playing one of our favourite games, Funky Mummy. We laugh a lot at this game in class especially when the mummy does its funky dance laugh Go to this link and practice your number bonds within 10 and when you feel confident, move onto bonds within 20. Remember to choose the missing number that completes the number sentence.

https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/funkyMummy/index.html

Once you have played this game, watch the video I have attached below all about part whole number bonds. We have used this model in class so you will be familiar with it. You will be making number bonds to 10 and 20 in your work so the practice from the funky mummy game will be good.

Once you have watched the video with a grown up, I want you to practice making number bonds. Go to this link

https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/partPartWhole/index.html and practice making numbers bonds to 10 and 20. You can choose the counters that you want to use. Put the number in the top circle and then share out the counters to make the correct number bonds.

After you have done this, look at the work I have set for you. I have added bonds to 10 and 20 so choose which one you feel most confident with.  Please write the number bonds sentences in your workbooks. If you want to use practical resources you have at home to do this then that is fab! Please send me some pictures on purple mash.

In English, we are going to be looking at the picture again from yesterday but today we are going to be writing a list of questions that we would like to ask the man about items that you can see in his home.

What questions could you ask?

Please write the questions in your workbook. Can you write a question for each word?

Have a lovely day Year 1 and I will be keeping my fingers crossed that the sun comes out for us all. yes

Daily Learning Tasks Monday 18th May

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

Happy Monday! I can't believe how quick the weekend went. I hope you had a lovely time with your families and had a break from school work. This is our last week of this half term and I hear that the weather is supposed to get warmer especially on Wednesday yes

In Maths we are going to start our week by playing higher or lower with numbers up to 20. Go to this link and start by choosing the number range 1-20. The game will bring up a card and then you have to choose whether the next card is going to be higher or lower. If you want to challenge yourself then increase the number range at the top of the game before you start playing.

https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/playYourCardsRight/index.html

Once you have played this game, we are going to start our work on doubles. Watch the video I have attached with a grown up and then have a look at the work I have set for you. The first 4 questions of this video are recap questions on work we have already covered. The answers are given in the video. (Remember the short date 18.5.20)

This week in English we are going to start a new book but I'm not going to tell you what it is called yet. Some of you may know the book and some of you might not which is fine. Today I want you to look at the picture and write down a list of all the things you can see. Then I want you to make a prediction (a guess) about what job the man in the picture does. I have attached the bigger picture for you below. In your workbooks, remember to write the full date (Monday 18th May 2020) and use your capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and neat handwriting.

I'm sorry if some of you had problems getting into the Adventure Man game on Friday, I was able to access it ok on my computer at home. It could be if you are accessing it on an iPad or a tablet. Please let me know if you have any difficulties accessing any of the games I set for you.

Have a lovely day Year 1 and I hope you enjoy getting back into learning today.

Daily Learning Tasks Friday 15th May

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

Happy Friday! I hope you've all had a lovely week. It's spelling test day today so ask an older sibling or grown up to test you on your spellings. Your new spellings are also now on spelling shed.

Today in Maths we are going to recap all the work we have done over the past few weeks on time, money and position and direction. I don't want to write anything in your workbooks today, I have chosen lots of games for you to play to practice your skills.

Telling the Time

In this game you have to look at the time on the clock and then read the times in words underneath  in words to o'clock and half an hour and choose the correct one that matches the time on the clock.

https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/117/telling_the_time_in_words#

 Money

In this game you can choose items to customise a car and then choose the correct coins to pay for the item you have chosen.

 http://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/customCars/

In this game, you can choose items in a sweet shop and then have to choose the correct amount in coins to pay.

http://www.crickweb.co.uk/ks1numeracy.html#Sweet_Shop_NewV2

Position, Direction and Movement

In this game, you have to give the Bee-Bot some directions to move around the mat. You can choose different mats, I chose an alphabet one. Practice moving the Bee-Bot in different directions.

https://www.terrapinlogo.com/emu/beebot.html

In English we are also going to play some games, so don't worry about writing anything down. We are going to practice days of the week and months of the year. In the first game, you have to help Adventure Man answer questions about days of the week so he can enter the mysterious temple.

https://www.abcya.com/games/days_of_the_week

In the final game, you have put the months of the year in order. I have attached the days of the week and months of the year to help you.

https://www.turtlediary.com/game/months-of-the-year.html

Have fun playing the games I have set for you and good luck in your spelling test.

Daily Learning Tasks Thursday 14th May

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

I hope you are all ok, its definitely a lot colder than it has been. I really hope it starts to warm up again soon. Thank you for the lovely messages on Purple Mash, if you haven't been in touch yet please send me a message. I really enjoy hearing from you all.

Today in Maths we are going to be learning about quarter, half and whole turns. I'm sure you all probably know how to do this already and you could ask a grown up to ask you to practice turning left and right at home. I bet you will be fantastic!

First I would like you to go through the information about turns and directions with a grown up. Once you have done this, have a look at the work I have attached for you. Look at each shape and decide how it has moved. Is it a half turn, a quarter turn or a whole turn? Which way has the shape turned? Is it clockwise or anticlockwise?

In English, I would like you to choose an animal from the story of 'The Highway Rat', research them on the internet, using a book or asking a grown up. Once you have researched the animal you have chosen I would like you to create an animal factfile. I have added some templates to help you set it out in your books. The National Geographic Kids website is a good starting point for lots of facts about different animals.

Here is the link https://www.natgeokids.com/uk/

Don't forget to keep practising your spellings for your test on Friday, I can see that you are doing brilliantly on spelling shed. Well done! yes

Have a lovely day Year 1 and wrap up warm if you go outside.

Daily Learning Tasks Wednesday 13th May

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

I can't believe its Wednesday already! The weeks are going by so quickly. Thank you for all your hard work and effort, I am incredibly proud of you for being so sensible and helpful for your grown ups at home. I miss you all lots and I hope to see you soon.

In Maths we have done lots of learning on money and you have done excellent work so now we are going to move on today to look at using positional language. You will already be very good at this and will be using these words every day without realising it so I know you are going to be amazing!

First I would like you to go to this link in Espresso which will go through the positional language you will be using.

https://central.espresso.co.uk/espresso/primary_uk/subject/module/video/item883132/grade1/module883106/index.html

After you have watched this video I would like you to do the following activity which is also on Espresso and will ask you to choose where each toy is on a shelf.

https://central.espresso.co.uk/espresso/primary_uk/subject/module/activity/item890544/grade1/module883106/index.html

Once you have done this, have a look at the work I have set for you below. Using your knowledge of shapes and the words on the sheet I want you to write out the sentences in your workbook and fill in the word that describes the position of each shape.

In English you are going to imagine you are a baker in the cake shop in 'The Highway Rat' and you will need to write a set of instructions to bake a cake for all the animals. I have added some recipe templates to help you set it out in your workbooks and also an example recipe.  You can choose any cake to make and even make up your own cake!

I have also added some sequencing cards for making a cake so you might want to draw how to make a cake and write a sentence next to the picture. I will leave it up to you.

Have a lovely day Year 1 yes

Daily Learning Tasks Tuesday 12th May

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

I hope you are all ok and enjoyed getting back into learning yesterday. The weather has definitely been colder than the beautiful sunshine we had Friday and Saturday but I hope you are still getting chance to get outside in the fresh air.

Today in maths we are going to be subtracting (taking away) using coins. Subtracting is a little trickier than adding and can get confusing but from what we have done already in school, I know you will be fantastic!

First I would like you to go through the presentation I have attached with a grown up, this will recap adding coins and also show you subtracting with coins. After you have gone through this with a grow up, go to this link https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/toy-shop-money and select the pink mixed coins tab and then choose 'give change' and then select 'change to 20p'.

After you have played this game and you feel more confident, have a look at the work I have set for you which is working out the change up to 10p and 20p. I have added a 0-20 number line to help you. Remember to start at the biggest number and take away the smaller number to work out how much change there will be. When subtracting on a number line remember to jump backwards. yes

In English we are going to write an apology letter from the rat to all the animals that he stole food from. Think about the story and how badly the rat treats all the different animals. How do they feel when they have no food? How can the rat show that he is sorry? I have attached a template to help you. What will the rat say in his letter? Do you think the animals will forgive him for being so mean?

If you haven't been in touch with me on purple mash or just want to say hi, please send me an email. I love hearing from you and seeing pictures of the activities you have been doing.

Daily Learning Tasks Monday 11th May

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

Did you have a lovely weekend? What did you do for VE day? I spent the day celebrating at home, I put some decorations up in the house and drank lots of cups of tea. If you did do anything you would like to share with me, please send me an email on Purple Mash. I would love to see what you have been up to!

It's Monday again so welcome to another week of learning at home. I hope you've had chance to have a rest this weekend and are ready to carrying on with our learning with money from last week. Last Wednesday we looked at adding together a variety of mixed coins. Today we are going to use our knowledge of adding coins to choose a variety of coins to pay for items in a toy shop. First I would like you to go to this link

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/toy-shop-money and choose the pink tab that says 'mixed coins'.

I would first like you to start by giving the exact money for a toy up to 20p, if you feel confident with this then move onto giving the exact money up to £1. Each time a different toy will be shown and you have to select the coins that add up to that amount. You can choose a variety of different coins to make the correct amount.

After you have had chance to play the Toy shop money game have a look at the work I have attached for you. There is a list of lots of different toys and the prices that they cost. Look at the toy number sentences and write them down in your workbooks. Have a look at how much each item costs and then write that amount into a number sentence. If a doll cost 9p and a teddy 6p then the number sentences would be                  9p + 6p = 15p.

Write down or draw the coins that you could use to pay for the two items. This is quite tricky Year 1 so you may need some help from a grown up or older sibling. Don't worry of you find it difficult to start with just keep playing the game until you feel confident to try some number sentences. Good luck I know you will all be amazing! yes

In English we are going to carry on and finish off our work on 'The Highway Rat from last week. On Wednesday I asked you to write a book review. How did you get on? Did you enjoy the book? What was your favourite part?

Today we are going to write a Police Report about all the bad things that the rat has done. To remind you of the story either re-read the book if you have it or go to BBC iPlayer and watch the film again. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b09kkt1k/the-highway-rat

I have added a template for a police report and also a list of the items that were stolen, can you remember who they were stolen from and write the names of who they need to be returned to?

Have a lovely day Year 1.

Speak to you again tomorrow.

Daily Learning Tasks Thursday 7th May

Good Morning Year 1smiley

Today is the last day of our week as tomorrow is a bank holiday. Its a very special day because it marks 75 years since the end of World War 2. It is called VE day or ''Victory in Europe Day'. On May 8th 1945, the prime minister told everybody that the war had come to an end. Everyone was extremely happy that the fighting had stopped and they held big celebrations and street parties. Tomorrow is the 8th May, so it will be exactly 75 years since the end of World War Two. Look at these pictures of people celebrating from the first 'Victory in Europe Day' back in 1945.

It was a very special and exciting time and everyone came together to celebrate and whilst this isn't possible at the minute, it doesn't mean that you can't celebrate it at home with your family.

Today I would like to find out more about what VE day is. I have attached a PowerPoint for you to go through with an adult which explains more about what happened and the celebrations that took place. Once you have discussed this with your grown ups, I want you to write down 5 facts about VE day. They don't have to be long and you can set this out in your workbooks however you want to. You might want to draw a flag or something else connected to VE day to decorate your work, I will leave it up to you.

I won't be setting any Maths or English work tomorrow but if you would like to do any of the optional VE day activities then have a look at what I have put on this page for you, there are lots of fun things to try. Don't forget your spelling test on Friday and your new spellings will be on there for next week too. yes

If you do choose to do any of these activities, please take a picture and send me an email on Purple Mash, I would love to see what you have been doing for VE day with your families.

Take care Year 1 and have a lovely long weekend. I hope the sun stays out for us all smiley

I will speak to you again on Monday, I miss you lots.

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

It's already Wednesday, the weather has improved and the sun has come back out! I hope you are getting time to enjoy the sunshine. I know it can be difficult working from home because it is different to when we are in school and that is ok. Your grown ups are busy too so its good if you can help them in any way you can, maybe keeping your bedroom tidy or helping with jobs around the house. I am very proud of how sensible you all are and how good you are being for your parents.

In Maths today we are going to have a go at adding up a mixture of different coins. You will need your knowledge of counting and adding today and when you are counting 2ps, 5ps and 10ps you can count up in 2s, 5s and 10s. You are all amazing at this so this will help you work out the answers. Ask your grown ups if they will help you go through the presentation about adding coins. Once you have done this please go back to the coin game we have been playing for the past two days and choose the counting option.                                https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/coins-game There are 4 options to this game, so start with counting single coins to 10p, then move onto the other options when you are ready and depending how confident you feel about adding coins.

Once you have done this I have attached some worksheets for you to have a go at adding coins, please choose the one you feel most happy doing as adding coins can be quite tricky. Don't worry about printing the sheets just write or draw the answers in your workbooks.

In English I would like you to read or watch the story of 'The Highway Rat' again and then write a review about it. What was your favourite part of the story and why? Is there anything about the story you didn't like or that you would change? I have attached some templates to help you set it out in your workbooks.

Thankyou for all the lovely emails on Purple mash, I love logging on and seeing your wonderful pictures and messages every day. It makes me very happy and keeps me smiling every day. If you haven't been in touch yet please send me an email, I would to hear from you. smiley

Have a wonderful day Year 1, I miss you lots

Daily Learning Tasks Tuesday 5th May

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

I hope you had a lovely day yesterday and enjoyed starting our learning on money. I've already seen some fantastic work from this morning on purple mash which is brilliant!

Yesterday we started by recognising coins and notes with the help of your grown ups.  Today we are going to order coins and notes from the lowest value to the highest value. First I would like you to work with a grown up to go through the presentation of ordering coins and notes, this will give you more information about the VALUE of the different coins and notes  After you have done this, I would like you to go back to the game you played yesterday on this link

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/coins-game and choose the ordering game. There are 3 options for you to choose; order 1, 2 or a range of coins. Start by ordering 1 coin and see if you can work up to ordering a range of coins. If you have real coins then use these to help you.

After you have ordered the coins, I would like you to order the coins in your workbook from the lowest value to the highest value. If can do the notes as well this is fantastic! Use the coins and notes mat I have attached to help you. Draw the coin or just write the value. You could even do a coin rubbing if you have some real coins to use!

In English today we are going to be focusing on the hero of the story, the duck. In the story the cunning duck tricks the greedy highway rat into a cave where he can't steal any more food. If you were a hero in this story what animal would you be and how would you stop the rat from stealing everyone's food? If you want to recap the story go to the BBC iPlayer link from yesterday's work.

In your workbooks draw the picture of the animal that you would be and write down your plan to stop the greedy rat. In the story the duck tricks the rat into a cave because he thinks the echo is someone in the cave with food. What unusual and interesting plan could you come up with?  Remember to write down the long date (Tuesday 5th May) and use capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and your beautiful cursive writing.

Have a lovely day and remember to keep taking breaks to give yourself a well deserved rest.

Speak tomorrow Year 1

Daily Learning Tasks Monday 4th May

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

I hope you've all had a lovely weekend, it hasn't been as sunny as I thought it would be but the weather is supposed to get better this week so hopefully you will be able to get outside later in the week. Thank you for all the lovely pictures and messages on Purple Mash and well done to those of you who have a had a go at the senses work I set for you. There is no specific date to hand this work in and it isn't compulsory, it is just there if you want to do it.

I have uploaded a new Pick and Mix for you all about old and new toys so I'm sure you are going to enjoy the activities I have set for you. I have also added a link to Espresso to help you with the research on toys. There are also activities to do like sorting old and new toys. Have a look!

This week in maths we are going to be learning about money and today we are going to start by recognising coins. Now lots of people don't use as many coins as they used to because lots of people pay with their bank cards. If your grown ups have coins in the house ask them if you can use them this week to help you with your learning.

Ok first I would like you to work with a grown up to go through the presentation I have attached. They will be able to help you talk through each of the coins and notes. Once you have done this, go to this link

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/coins-game and follow the instructions to sort the coins into the money box. Start with ordering 1 coin first and then move onto ordering 2 coins into the money boxes.

Once you have done this, look at the work I have attached and see if you can write down what each coin and note is. Don't worry about printing the sheet, just give each box a number and then write what coin it is in your workbook. I have added the coin

In English this week, we are going to be using the story 'The Highway Rat' by Julia Donaldson. This is a story about a greedy rat who travels around stealing other animals food. First I would like you to watch the story on BBC iPlayer so please go to this link                                               https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b09kkt1k/the-highway-rat If you have the book at home you can read the book instead, its up to you.

Once you have watched the video or read the book I want you to create a wanted poster for the rat. I have attached some templates of how I would like you to set it out in your books. Before you start your writing, create a bank of words like we do in class that you can use to help you describe the rat and what type of character he is.

Once you have done these activities I have set a 2do on Purple Mash to recap our science work on materials. Don't worry if you don't get round to it but have a look and see what you think.

Have a lovely day Year 1 smiley

Daily Learning Tasks Friday 1st May

Good Morning Year 1 and Happy Friday! smiley

I can't believe its Friday already and the 1st day of May! Where has the time gone? I know its been a while now since we've been in school together and I know that you miss being with your friends. I miss you all every single day and hope that you are happy and enjoying the work. I can not tell you how proud I am of every single one of you. You are being so sensible and grown up and being fantastic for your parents, You make me very happy and I know your grown ups feel the same way. It is not easy not being able to see your family and I know its hard for your grown ups too. Its hard for me when I cant see my family too but I know they are safe and happy and that it won't always be like this. Keep doing all the amazing things you are doing Year 1, I love seeing your lovely smiley faces on pictures that are being sent to me, it reminds me how special you all are and how much I miss you. I hope we can be back together soon smiley

So it's spelling test day today so please ask a grown up or an older sibling to help you with your spelling test. I am sure you will all do amazing! Your new spellings are on spelling shed for next week. Please log on and have a look at next weeks spellings.

Today in Maths we are going to be recapping telling the time to o'clock and half past. I don't want you to write anything in your workbooks today, I just want you play the game I have set for you. Go to this link

https://www.freddiesville.com/games/telling-time-oclock-half-past-memory-game/ and see if you can match the time pairs.

In English, I want you to imagine that you are the snail in the story and you could choose a place to visit with the whale . Where would you go? Write a list of items that you would you pack in your bag to take with you and explain why you would take them.

If you want to learn more about may day, go to this  link

Daily Learning Tasks Thursday 30th April

Good Morning Year 1, smiley

I hope you are ok. I miss you all lots, the weather has turned a bit wet, but I still hope you are able to have some fun at home with your family. Well done on yesterdays task, telling the time can be tricky but from what I have seen you are all doing incredibly well.  A huge thank you to those of you that have sent me an email this week, it has really made me smile. I am also really enjoying receiving all the lovely photos of the work and the activities that you have been sending me. Please keep sending them in. yes

In maths today we are going to play a game matching o’clock times for Mr Wolf. Go to this link in Twinkl and launch the game                                                               https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/tg-ga-178-whats-the-time-mr-wolf-game

Once you have played this game I want you to practice setting the hour hand on a clock so you can use your own clock and ask a grown up to give you some   times or you can go to this link https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/earlymath/on_time_game1.htm

and play Level 1. You will be given an o’clock time verbally and you need to move the hour hand (the small hand) to the correct time.

After this ask a grown up to talk you through the presentation about telling the time to half past. This is a little trickier, but I know you are all super clever and will be fantastic. When a clock is telling the time to half past the minute hand (the big hand) will ALWAYS be on the 6 and the hour hand (the small hand) will be between two numbers. So, if it were half past 1, the big hand would be on the 6 and the little hand would be halfway between the 1 and the 2.

Once you have talked through this with your grown up, have a look at the clocks that are showing half past and write the times that are shown. You do not need to print this just number the clocks 1-12 and then write the times in your workbook.

If any of you would like an extra maths challenge I have added some time challenge cards for you to try. Good Luck! yes

In English today I want you to imagine you are the snail, travelling under the sea with the whale. What can you see? Look at this underwater image and write some sentences in your workbook to describe all the things you can see. Try and join your sentences using ‘and’ and ‘because’. I have added an under the sea word mat to help you with some tricky words. Use your senses to help you write your sentences. Can you remember what your senses are?

In addition to this and to recap on our senses work from last year, I have added a 2do activity on Purple Mash. Please log in and have a look. These activites are not compulsory they are just there if you want to do them.

I am immensely proud of you Year 1 and how hard you are working, Keep it up!

Daily Learning Tasks Wednesday 29th April

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

Thank you to those of you that have emailed me through purple mash. It is fantastic to hear from you! if you haven't had chance to do this yet please try and send me an email to say hello, I want to know how you are getting on.

Well done on making your clocks yesterday I have seen some amazing pictures of them. If your clock hands are moveable that will be great for todays task, if not don't worry. Today in Maths we are going to learn about telling the time to o'clock. A clock has two hands (not hands like you and me) but like two long arrows that move around the clock face. There is a long hand and a short hand. The long hand is a minute hand and the short hand is the hour hand. When we are looking at telling the time to o'clock, the minute hand will ALWAYS be pointing to the 12 and the hour hand will be pointing to a number on the clock face to show what time it is.

Ask your grown ups to talk through the PowerPoint I have attached for you which explains telling the time to o'clock.  Practise using your clock to make different times Once you have done this, have a look at the clocks I have attached and write down the time the clock is showing in your workbook. Don't worry about printing the document, you can give each clock a number from 1-12 and then write the time of each clock against the number in your workbook.

In English we are carrying on with 'The Snail and the Whale book'. In the story the whale gets stuck on a beach and can't make it back to the sea because he is too big. I want you to write a letter from the snail to the children at the school to ask for their help. I have attached an example of a letter so you can recap on the features needed in. Snail really needs help to rescue the whale because it is too small to help. What will you write in your letter? Remember you need to explain the problem and why you need help. It is good to explain what kind of help you need because the whale is so big, it will need a few people to help get it back to the water where it is safe. If you want to watch the video again go to the link for BBC iPlayer from yesterday.

Good luck with today's tasks. I know you are working incredibly hard and I am very proud of you all.

Miss you lots Year 1

Daily Learning Tasks Tuesday 28th April

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

Thank you for the lovely birthday wishes that I received yesterday. I got some lovely emails and pictures of work. If you haven't had chance to log into Purple Mash, please do and send me an email to say hi. I would love to hear from you and see how you are doing.

I hope you enjoyed yesterdays tasks, I had a lovely day in the garden  listening to music and spending time with my daughter.

Today in Maths we are going to start looking at telling the time. The first job I would like you to do is to make yourself a clock- Remember to try and put the numbers in the correct place. can use anything for this, paper, a paper plate. Whatever you have will be fantastic!

In English today we are going to start the book 'The Snail and the Whale'. First I would like you to watch this on BBC iplayer so please go to this link https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000cslw/the-snail-and-the-whale and watch the video. Once you have done this I would like you to choose one of the places that the snail and the whale visit and write about your visit as though you are the snail. Draw a picture first and then write about your visit. Remember YOU are the snail.

Have a lovely day Year 1 smiley

Daily Learning Tasks Monday 27th April

Good Morning Year 1smiley

I hope you are all ok and have had a lovely weekend. The weather has been beautiful so I hope you've had chance to get out in the sunshine. Well we are into our second week of the summer term and you are all working super hard. Keep up this amazing work! Its also the last week of April, the time is going so quickly.

Last night I sent out login details for you to access an app called purple Mash. Your parents/carers have been sent information about Purple Mash and how to use it but there is a section on there called 2email which is what you and I are going to use to stay in touch in with each other. Please try logging in today and sending me an email to say hi and let me know how you are. I can't wait to hear from you all!!

Remember I told you on Friday that today is a special day for me, well its my birthday! I know all birthday are special and I'm sorry we've not been able to celebrate those of you that have had birthdays while you've been home but I'm sure you all had a lovely time. I am 40 years old today which is very special and I will be celebrating at home.  As its my birthday I thought that today it would be nice to do some birthday themed activities.

In Maths today  I would first like you to write out the months of the year in order. We've done this lots in class and I have added a picture of the months for you but try and do it on your own first. To remind you of the months of the year go to this link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5enDRrWyXaw

After you have written down the months of the Year I want you to write your name and birth date next to your birthday month. Do this for all your family so you will have to ask them when their birthdays are. As we can't currently go and visit our relatives maybe you could face time them to ask them when their birthdays are and write them against the month they were born in.

In English, I would like to you design a party hat, a party invitation and also a birthday cake. You can make these as fun and colourful as you want. I have attached some templates if you want to use them or just use some paper or craft materials you have at home. Whatever you use will be fantastic! I can't wait to see how creative you can be!

Have a lovely day Year 1 I miss you lots, especially on days like today.

Daily Learning Tasks Friday 24th April

Good Morning Year 1smiley

You've made it to Friday and the first full week of learning in our Summer term. Well done! I am incredibly proud of you all and know that you are working very hard on the tasks that I have been setting for you.

I have also put new spellings on Spelling shed for you to learn for next Friday so please remember to go on and practise for your spelling test next week.

Today in maths you won't need to write anything in your work books, I just want you to play the two games I have set for you. First go this link in Twinkl https://www.twinkl.co.uk/go/resource/tg-ga-132-super-pairs-2d-shapes-pairing-game and have a go at matching the shape and the shape name and see how many pairs you can make. There are 3 levels so see how many you can do.

After that, go to this link (again in Twinkl) https://www.twinkl.co.uk/go/resource/3d-shapes-interactive-word-search-tg-43-newlink and see if you can find all the 3D shape names in the word search. It could be quite tricky!

How did you get on with writing a conversation between Madam Dragon and Zog? I'm sure you all did a fantastic job! Today we are going to create a school lunchbox for Zog. I want you to make this as fun or disgusting as you want. Draw and label the pictures in your workbook and then write some sentences to describe what you have put in your lunchbox. I'm sure you will enjoy this. yes I have added some food and picture word cards if you want to choose some of the foods from there or you can make up your own.

I have added some fun Zog themed stuff for you to do over the weekend if you want. Please don't feel you have to its just there if you want any extra Zog resources. If you don't have a printer its no problem just use some paper or your workbook instead.

*Parents -  I am aware that an awful lot of resources have become available on the Internet over recent weeks and looking through them and deciding which ones to use to help your children can be quite overwhelming. The home learning documents below are from the websites ‘Primary Learning Stars’ and ‘Classroom Secrets’ These are sites that I use lots in the classroom and I would be keen to recommend for you to make us of at home if you wish to do so.

Have a lovely weekend Year 1. I miss you all very much. Speak to you again on Monday (its a special day for me, I will tell you more then wink)

 https://central.espresso.co.uk/espresso/primary_uk/subject/module/activity/item886686/grade1/module883106/index.html

After you have done this, look at the attached work with the 3D shapes on and see if you can write the number of the shape and the name of it in your workbooks. Don't forget the short date before you start your work (23.4.2020). Use the 3D shape names on the work to help you. yes

In English, we are going to start by recapping our knowledge of using question marks. remember to write the long date for English (Thursday 23rd April). Go to this link https://www.roythezebra.com/reading-games/question-mark-1.html and put the question marks in the right place. Remember you don't need a full stop and a question mark.

After you have done this I want you to look at the image of Madam Dragon and Zog and imagine what they are saying to each other. What conversation could they be having? You can draw Madam Dragon and Zog in your workbooks if you would like or just write what they might be saying. See if you can use a question mark in your writing. Try and write at least 3 sentences for each character please.

Remember I told you it was St George's Day earlier, well if you want to know more, go to this link and watch an interesting video all about it.

I have added a picture of the dragons from the 'How to Train your Dragon' film to give you some inspiration! Draw the dragon in your workbook please. You might want to design a shield by drawing things that represent you and your family. See how creative you can be!     I can't wait to see how you get on. yes

Have a lovely day Year 1 and get out in the sunshine if you can.

Daily Learning Tasks Wednesday 22nd April

Good Morning Year 1smiley

I hope you are all ok. I am very proud of you all. It has been a while since we were together in school but I do miss you every single day.

Remember to write the dates in your workbook before you start your work.  Short date for Maths and the long date for English.

Today in maths we are going to start by practising counting in 5's Go to this link                                                                                                      https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/whackAMole/index.html

Ask your grown up to help you set the steps of 5 and then the start number as 0 on the top left hand side of the game.

Once your grown up has set this up for you then have to hit the correct number starting at 0 and going up in 5s. You can count as far as you want so just stop when you have counted as far as you can go. Try and get to 100 before you stop. We have practised our counting in class and I know you are very good at this. yes

After you have done this, I want you to have a go at making a shape pattern with 2d shapes. Go to this link

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ordering-and-sequencing/shape-patterns and have a go at finishing the shape pattern. There are 3 levels to choose from so see how many you can do.

After you have practised finishing the pattern, see if you can create your own 2D shape pattern in your workbook. I have attached some shape patterns for you to follow or you can create your own. I have also added the 2D shape mat again from yesterday.

In English, we are carrying on with Zog and today I would like you to draw a new home for a dragon. Dragons usually live in caves or cliff tops but you can choose wherever you want. The more unusual the better. Once you have drawn your new home for a dragon, I want you to write some sentences to describe it. I have added a word mat to help you with this. Remember your capital letters, finger spaces full stops and try and use and/because in your writing. Good luck, I know you will do an amazing job!

Keep safe and happy!

Daily Learning Tasks Tuesday 21st April

Good Morning Year 1, smiley

I hope you enjoyed getting back into working yesterday after the Easter break?  I'm sure you are all working extremely hard as always and doing some wonderful work.

Today in Maths we are continuing to look at 2D shapes and are going to name a few more common ones.  First I would like you to watch this video about 2D shapes. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zjv39j6/articles/ztpwdmn This video will talk about the shapes and start to introduce the properties of each shape and how we identify them.

After you have watched this video I want you to have a play of this interactive labelling game on the Twinkl website. Twinkl are currently offering a free membership whilst schools are closed so to sign up just ask your grown up to go to this link https://www.twinkl.co.uk/offer and enter the offer code CVDTWINKLHELPS for the free access.

Once you are in Twinkl please go to this game https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/2d-shape-aliens-interactive-labelling-activity-tg-84-newlink

Once you have had a go at labelling the 2D shapes I want you to draw the shapes in your workbooks and label them correctly. Use a ruler to make sure the lines are nice and straight. I have added a 2D shape word mat to help you.

In English, we are going to carry on with the book Zog. Today I would like you to have a go at writing some describing sentences about Zog. You can write what he looks like on the outside and also what type of character he is on the inside, Is he kind or mean? Is he helpful? What does he look like? Remember to use your capital letters, finger spaces and full stops and also try and join your sentences using 'and'. Draw Zog in your workbooks and then write your sentences underneath.

Keep working hard,  I miss you all very much.

Daily Learning Tasks Monday 20th April

Hi Year 1 smiley

I've missed you all so much. I hope you've all had a lovely Easter and not eaten too much chocolate. Thank you for the lovely pictures I have received of your work, its so lovely to see your happy smiley faces. Today is officially the start of our Summer term so I will be posting daily Maths and English work for you again to complete in your workbooks.

In maths this week we are going to be looking at 2D and 3D shapes. First I would like you to watch this video in Espresso                                      https://central.espresso.co.uk/espresso/primary_uk/subject/module/video/item883111/grade1/module883106/index.html which is all about 2D shapes around us.

Once you have watched the video I want you to go on a shape hunt around your house/garden and see how many things you can find that are the same shape as the 2D shapes on the worksheet. Draw the objects in your workbooks please.

The login details for Espresso in case you have forgotten are:  student22316 and the log in is abc123

In English this week we are going to be using the book Zog by Julia Donaldson. You will need to ask a grown up to help you access this video of the story on BBC iPlayer  https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bwdw8y/zog

Once you have watched the video I want you to write down a list of the skills that Zog must learn at dragon school.

What does Zog need to do to become a dragon? Please write this in your workbooks.

Easter Activities

Hi Year 1, smiley

During the Easter break I would like you to relax and spend some time with your family. I have added an Easter Pick and Mix with activities on for you to do if you would like. I have also added some additional Easter activites like Dot to Dot and a Maths and English activity book too. Please don't feel like you have to do them but if your grown ups have a printer and want to print anything off thats fine. If they don't have a printer don't worry, lots of the activities can be done without one.

Relax and enjoy and I will speak to you again on Monday 20th April.

Daily Learning Tasks Friday 3rd April

Good Morning Year 1, smiley

Well its Friday again and that week has gone quickly. Well done for completing your second week of home learning and a special thank you to the grown ups, brothers and sisters that have helped you with your work. It's spelling test day again so please ask an adult or an older sibling to test you on your spellings just like last week. Good luck! Your new spellings are now on spelling shed too, please make sure you practice them just as you have been doing. yes

Today in maths we are going to look at counting up in 2's. Go to this clip on BBC Bitesize https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zw6n34j

This video will talk you through counting up in 2s. Once you have watched it, I would like you to go to this link                                     https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/paint-the-squares

From the main menu select the numbers you want to do and then select your favourite colour and count up in 2s. Do you notice any patterns?

Count up in 2s all the way to 50 and write the numbers in your workbook. If you want to count in 2s all the way to 100 that is great!

For English today I want you to have a look at the Image below. Its called 'By the River'. There are 10 questions to answer about the picture so look at it carefully and think about your answers before you write them down. Don't worry if you can't do all 10 questions, try 5 first and see how you get on. Write your answers in your workbook please and remember your capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. yes

  Easter

If we were currently in school, today we would be our last day as we finish for Easter for 2 weeks. Obviously things are very different at the moment for us all and next week, as it is the school holidays, I will not be posting daily tasks for you. It's really important that you relax and enjoy some time with your family and have a well deserved break from your school work during this time. However, I will be posting an Easter Pick and Mix for you with some activities and tasks for you to be getting on with during the school holidays if you wish.

Take care of yourselves Year 1, I miss you heart

Daily Learning Tasks Wednesday 1st April

Good Morning Year 1,

I can't believe its the first of April today already! I can see that you are working hard on your spellings and doing lots of practice. I miss you all very much and can't wait to see all your lovely happy faces again. smiley

In maths today we are going to start with ordering numbers within 100. I would like you to go to this link https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ordering-and-sequencing/caterpillar-ordering and have a go at ordering a selection of random numbers up to 100. If you find this a little tricky you can choose to do numbers up to 10 or 20.

Once you have played this game a couple of times, I would like you to look at the maths work below and order a range of numbers within 100 from smallest to largest. You can do the numbers within 100 or the numbers within 20. I know you are all so clever so I want you to try ordering the numbers within 100 first. Use the hundred square to help you yes

In English today I would like you to go to this link in Espresso (make sure you are logged in)

https://central.espresso.co.uk/espresso/primary_uk/subject/module/video/item910888/grade1/module910304/collection910350/section911016/index.html and watch the video about adding -er and -est to adjectives.

Once you have watched this video I would like you to look at the work below and then  write the -er and -est words in your home learning book and then write a sentence underneath to include all three words. You should use the pictures to help you. There are 8 sentences on the sheet but you only need to do 4. If you want to do all 8 that's fantastic! I will leave it up to you, but the minimum is 4.

Keep working hard I miss you all very much smiley

Daily Learning Tasks Tuesday 31st March

Good Morning Year 1 and happy Tuesday smiley

I hope that you enjoyed yesterdays activities and are continuing to work hard and help your grown ups at home. I can see that some of you have already been on spelling shed over the weekend which is fantastic! Remember to keep practising for your spelling test on Friday.  I hope you've all had chance to go on Oxford Owl and read some of the books on there, they really are good! Also please remember to go on Phonics play and access the games.

Right lets get to work! yes

Today for Maths we are continuing with place value. First I would like you to go to this link

https://www.ictgames.com/sharkNumbers/mobile/ and match the number to the correct tens and ones shown on the screen.

After that, I would like you to look at the document below with your grown up and split the numbers into tens and ones. If you find these numbers too tricky then you can choose any of your own numbers from the hundred square. Please write your work neatly in your home learning workbook. If you need a reminder then watch the trees and birds video again from yesterday.

In English, today I would like you to go to this link in Espresso (so you need to be logged in first) you can check the login details from yesterdays work.

You are going to be working on adding the prefix un to the start of words to change the meaning of the word. Watch the video first and then have a go at the work below. There are 3 options to choose from; If you choose the 3 stars work then the sentences that you write must include the word because to explain what is happening in the sentence.

For example: Jack was being unkind to his friend because he wouldn't share his sweets with him.

Good luck and I'll speak to you again tomorrow smiley

Daily Learning Tasks Monday 30th March

Good Morning Year 1 smiley

I hope you've all had a lovely weekend, its strange knowing I won't be seeing your lovely faces today but I know you are happy and safe at home. It has been colder over the weekend and there hasn't been as much of the beautiful sunshine we had earlier in the week but I still hope you had some fun with your families.

Back into a new week of home learning and this week in Maths we are going to be recapping Place Value. We have done this together in class so you will be familiar with the videos. First job is to recap counting in tens. Go to this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYRTtwZGwj8 to practice your counting up in tens to 100.

Once you have done this, ask your grown up to help you log into Espresso again like you did last week https://online.espresso.co.uk/espresso/login/Authn/UserPassword

The username is student22316 and the password is abc123

From the front page, select KS1 and Maths (it has a red circle next to it). Once you have done this, click on the box that says 'Number and place value'

Next, click on the Place value box

After this, click on videos and select the video Place Value: birds and trees

Watch the video to remind you about tens and ones for place value and then complete the Place Value Worksheet below. You can write the number sentences in your workbook yes

For English this week we are going to be doing grammar and punctuation so today I would like you to start with adding suffixes to the end of words. Stay working in Espresso and go back to the main page but this time select KS1 and English ( it has a yellow square next to it). Then selct Grammar and punctuation.

Then, select the blue word tab

Finally, select the box below. Watch the video and then complete activity 1. Once you have sorted the words, choose 4 words and put them into your own sentences in your workbooks. Remember your capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. yes

Once you've done this or you want a little disco break, go to one of our favourite cosmic yoga disco videos

https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=disco+cosmic+yoga&docid=608036050123099010&mid=914E3F84FE305BB5430E914E3F84FE305BB5430E&view=detail&FORM=VIRE

I'm very proud of you all and know how much care and effort you are putting into your work just like you do when you are in class. Keep up this amazing work!

Today is spelling test day and I can see that you have been practising hard on Spelling Shed. Once you have watched some of this, please go to the 'Meet our Animals' page https://www.chesterzoo.org/our-zoo/animals/ and choose an animal to make a poster about. There are 68 different animals to choose from so pick one that you find interesting and create your poster. You can draw or paint your animal poster its up to you. After you have drawn your animal I want you to describe it.  There are 3 facts about it on the web page; one about the animals diet, one about their habitat (where they live) and one fun fact. Please add this information to your poster and any extra pieces of interesting information you want. I have also added an animal adjective word mat to help you.

For Maths I would like you to go to this link https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/ladybird-spots

Have a go at writing all the matching number bonds to 10 in your workbook.

If you want to try something a bit harder have a go at these number bond challenges as well. Write your number sentences in your workbook please.
