Tuesday 18 October 2016

A day after Manchester welcomed home our Olympians, James Brindley were visited by two superstars to launch the Sport for Schools initiative.

James Denny is the current commonwealth silver medallist in synchronised diving where he partnered fellow Brit Tom Daley to finish a close second behind the Australian pair. Craig McCann is a British Paralympic athlete, former wheelchair fencer (London 2012) and the reigning four time National Champion Paracyclist.

The visitors put each class through a highly energetic but enjoyable workout to start the day before introducing themselves and the initiative in a school assembly later in the morning. Children had the opportunity to quiz James about his diving training and how he came to find himself involved in the sport.  James gave a demonstration of some of the techniques involved in diving from the 10 metre platform- without the aid of a deep pool to land in!

As you'll see from the video and photographs below, the children had a fantastic time and are determined to help the initiative by raising funds to support our current and future athletes. We are very grateful to James and Craig for their time.
