SCARF Autumn term.
In our Autumn term we have explored two topics including: Me and My Relationships and Valuing Differences.
Me and My Relationships:
- All about me - Children explored all things about themselves, such as distinctive features that makes them different to others. They paired up with children who looked different or the same as them and spoke about it together.
- What makes me special- Reception brought in a special item from home and they were able to talk about it and explain why it is special to them.
- Me and my special people- The children highlighted who are there special people at home and who looks after them. We made a handprint and wrote our five special people in each finger.
- Who can help me- We had detailed conversations in circle time, talking about who can help us at home and at school.
- My Feelings- We explored a range of emotions, how they make us feel in certain situations and what we can do to make ourselves feel better. We even trialled out some yoga to help us calm our emotions.
Valuing Differences
- I'm special, you're special- Children used mirrors to explore their features and create self portraits. They learnt a short song about how their individuality makes them special.
- Same and different people, families and homes- We explored all things about ourselves in class, that is the same as others or different and we celebrated our differences by creating posters of our lives. They made small houses out of wooden sticks to show who lives at home.
- I am Caring- Children wrote kindness letters to each other and thought about ways we can help each other in school.
- I am a Friend- Reception were encouraged to play with different children to normal and explore their friendships within the class.
They have really enjoyed our SCARF lessons and got really involved with all circle time sessions which has been lovely to see!
