Over the past few weeks, we have been learning all about keeping ourselves safe, and the children have shown such thoughtful ideas and maturity during our discussions.
We started by talking about what is safe to go onto and into our bodies, including medicines. The children learned that we should only take medicine from a trusted adult and that we must never taste or touch unknown substances. They were fantastic at sorting items into “safe” and “not safe” and explaining their reasons.
We also explored how to stay safe indoors and outdoors. The children shared brilliant ideas about road safety, using equipment carefully, and how to move safely around school and at home. They enjoyed acting out different scenarios and deciding on the safest choices.
A very important part of our learning focused on listening to our feelings. We talked about how our feelings can help keep us safe and how it’s important to tell a trusted adult if something makes us feel worried, uncomfortable or unsure. The children were incredibly thoughtful and supportive during these conversations.
We discussed keeping safe online, learning that we should only use devices with an adult’s permission, keep personal information private and always tell an adult if something online doesn’t feel right.
Finally, we thought about the many people who help to keep us safe, including family members, teachers, doctors, police officers and firefighters. The children loved talking about how these people help us in different ways.
We are so proud of how sensibly the children approached this important topic. They asked great questions, shared their ideas confidently and showed a growing understanding of how to keep themselves safe in different situations.
