Safer Internet Day in Reception 💻✨
This week, our Reception class took part in Safer Internet Day, learning how to stay safe when using tablets, computers and other devices. Even at a young age, it’s important for children to begin understanding how to use technology safely and confidently.
📺 What If Something Scary Pops Up?
We watched child-friendly videos that helped us think about what to do if something scary or upsetting appears on a screen. The children were fantastic at discussing different scenarios and sharing their ideas.
We talked about how sometimes, even when we are being sensible, a video or picture might pop up that makes us feel:
-
Worried
-
Confused
-
Frightened
-
Uncomfortable
The most important message we learned was simple and clear:
🗣️ Stop and tell a grown-up!
The children practised saying:
“I would tell a grown-up I trust.”
We discussed how it is never their fault if something unexpected appears on a device, and that grown-ups are there to help keep them safe.
Together, we created some simple online safety reminders:
-
Only use devices with a grown-up’s permission
-
Tell a grown-up if something pops up that feels scary or strange
-
Don’t try to fix it by yourself
-
Remember that not everything online is real.
