The weather at Buile Hill made conditions extremely tough for those brave enough to turn out today. Low temperatures, cold winds, slippery mud and driving rain meant that every single runner had to show grit and determination just to get round the tough course at Buile Hill.
In the Year 3 and 4 Boys Race, Oliver Nangle made a stunning season debut, showing fantastic speed and stamina to finish in an excellent 10th place. With more races, he will undoubtedly get better. Alfie Starling and Oliver Coppock ran very well judged races, making their way through the field to finish in a fantastic 25th and 47th place respectively. Some of our younger runners found the cold weather tough today but must be given full credit for how they conducted themselves, fighting to the end for each and every place. Well done to them all. With Jake Royle (3rd) and Josh Greenwood (5th) continuing their exceptional performances in their pursuits of individual medals, our boys team continue to thrive and are well in contention for team medals!
Conditions were equally grim at the start of the Year 3 and 4 Girls Race but Asha Mistry (3rd) and Imogen Pattison (12th) set off with real intent to make an impression at the front of the field. Erin Carinci (30th) ran a fantastic race, starting well and progressing through the field as the race reached its conclusion. Evie Thompson (36th) found the start tricky but ran an incredibly fast middle part of the race to put herself into a great spot. Libby Cooper (45th), Hermione Crompton (46th) and Jennifer Sneddon (54th) all impressed with good runs today. Well done to all our girls for their fabulous efforts again today- particularly to our youngest runners who showed great resilience in the tough conditions.
We may have only had six competitors in the Year 5 and 6 Boys Race, but each of them produced good runs in the horrible conditions, earning points for us. Some of them looked like they were having too much fun (I was certainly jealous!) coming down the big hill half way round the course, with very large smiles on their faces. Well done to Harry Bayman (13th), Matthew Greenwood (21st), Ren Smith (59th), Sam Sneddon (71st), Blake Farrow (74th) and Matthew Hughes (76th). We're very proud of your efforts.
In the Year 5 ad 6 Girls Race, Jasmine Wright (2nd), Marissa Caldwell (4th) and Sophia Roiditis (5th) all maintained their charges for individual medals. Bailey-Rae O'Keefe (9th) and Maisie Jeffries (18th) also continued to showcase their talents to the Salford Team Selectors ahead of the Greater Manchester Championships in February. Our Year 5 girls, Isabelle, Caitlin, Sophie, Charlotte (on her season debut) and Imogen coped superbly well with the horrid conditions, making monumental efforts and fighting for every place along the way. A big thank you to the girls and indeed to all our runners and their supporters.
The next Salford Schools Race is at Bolton Road Playing Fields on Saturday 09 December 2017.
