Worsley Relays - Wed 14 March 2018

The second annual Worsley Relays took place in the wonderful setting of Worsley Woods on Wednesday 14 March 2018. The course is undulating- full of twists, turns and even steps to test the runners. The wide variety of terrain makes it testing and a highly enjoyable and very scenic route. The runners are buoyed by the roar that greets them on their way around the circuit, passing their team mates and supporting family members, located on both the lower and upper paths. The atmosphere was again electric this year thanks to all our participants and their supporters.

In the girls race, James Brindley led from the start with Asha Mistry coming home in first place on the opening leg. It was a position that the team maintained throughout with Amelia Stringer, Sophia Roiditis, Jasmine Wright, Imogen Pattison, Scarlett Aylett, Marissa Caldwell and Erin Carinci powering round the circuit to ensure that we retained our title from last year's inaugural event. Well done to all our girls on outstanding performances!

In the boys race, Finley Cooney got us off to a good start finishing in an excellent second place. Harry Bayman produced a mature and supremely judged effort to bring the team home with a clear lead after leg two. Brothers, Josh Greenwood and Matthew Greenwood ran powerful legs to further extend our lead, as we looked to stake a claim to both titles this year.  Zachary Seddon set off at pace but maintained his effort well around the course to hand help us maintain a strong lead after leg 5. Jake Royle extended the leg once more with an impressively fast leg. On the penultimate leg, Connor Butler was being pursued by strong teams from Broadoak and St Andrew's, Boothstown. Despite this however, he handed us over in the lead. On our final leg, Harrison ran a strong lap almost evading the chasing runner from Broadoak, an exceptional Year 6. Even when caught just before the finish, he rallied and momentarily retook the lead, showing fantastic spirit to bring us home in an excellent silver medal position. Well done to all our boys for their sensational efforts and team spirit. We're immensely proud of you all.
