2018 Walter Hesketh XC Relays - Saturday 17 March 2018

Bitterly cold winds, snow, mud and World / Olympic medallist, Jenny Meadows, greeted our brave runners at Wythenshawe Park this morning. After our success at this event last year, we were hopeful of another strong showing and, despite the short notice, able to field 2 very strong girls teams. While the course at Wythenshawe is completely flat, the water and mud on the course made for very heavy underfoot conditions while the wind battered the runners on the out and back course.

On the first leg, Asha Mistry and Evie Thompson set out against a very high quality field. Both girls ran strongly, giving their all and keeping us in contention. Imogen Pattison and Scarlett Aylett set off on leg two, both determined to keep us in contention and close the gaps that lay just in front of them. Despite losing a shoe, Imogen finished strongly while Scarlett matched the determination of her more experienced teammates. Jasmine Wright and Bailey-Rae O'Keefe set off at scorching speed on leg three for each of our teams. Both girls have made enormous strides this year (pardon the pun) and regularly been mixing it with the best across the schools in Greater Manchester so it was no surprise that we carved our way through the field. On the final legs, our most experienced runners- Marissa Caldwell and Sophia Roiditis- finished off the performances wonderfully with commanding runs to bring us home in 2nd place in the A Team category and 1st place in the B Team category. Thank you to each of the girls for representing us so ably and with such pride. Your team trophies and medals are just reward for your fantastic performances.

Our final thanks must go the unwavering support of all our parents. Thank you for bringing your children to the race and enthusiastically supporting all the James Brindley runners. We couldn't do it without you.
