Race 5 - Salford Schools Cross Country 2015

The Salford Schools’ Cross Country Series finale was held in the serene surroundings of Buile Hill Park today. With 'Race 4' having been cancelled due to bad weather, the pressure was on teams to have a strong finish to the season.

Team James Brindley were delighted to welcome yet more debutants to our squad at the final race. Fresh from her triumph at the Salford Primary Schools Gymnastics Championships, Ellie-Jean Hardman took her bow (or should that be curtsy?) in the Year 5 & 6 Girls race. Having finished an excellent second place in our Junior Race School Cross Country Championships, Carter Graham eagerly lined up in the Year 3 & 4 Boys race, not remotely concerned at giving two years to many of his opponents. Both Ellie & Carter ably acquitted themselves to have very pleasing runs. Fifty different runners have now represented James Brindley at cross country this year; an outstanding achievement for a single form entry school.

Our cross country runners were once more a credit to their school and families. We are very proud of the effort, enthusiasm and support of each and every one. For our Year 5 & 6 Girls team, the outstanding effort was rewarded with a richly deserved third place overall.

A number of our older runners will now be anxiously waiting to see if they will have the honour of representing Team Salford at the Greater Manchester Primary Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday 21st March at Heaton Park. Indeed, given the very healthy state of cross country running at Primary level in Salford, both the boys and girls teams should prove to be highly competitive.
EDIT: Our warmest congratulations are offered to Toby Markham, Dino Roiditis, Lilly Matthews and Issey Fairhurst. After a great end to the season, they have been selected to represent the City of Salford and we wish them well for the race on 21st March.

As ever, a big thank you to our runners and their families for their support.
