The second round of the Salford METS XC Series was held in beautiful autumnal sunshine today. Once again we'd a very large team representing school who performed very well indeed with another handful of children making their season debut.
At the front of the girl's race, Millie Bayman was a comfortable winner, looking in control for the entire duration. Behind her, Marissa Caldwell and Jasmine Wright were locked in battle with a large group of girls for places in the top 8. Shortly after, the masses of James Brindley girls came flooding through, all engaged in their personal battles, many with smiles upon their faces. A particular mention is needed for our younger runners, many of them giving away up to 4 years on their rivals. Scarlett Aylett was very unfortunate to be badly spiked at the end of the opening straight but battled around with a badly cut heel and a shoe half on and half off. She didn't hesitate for a second, however, and showed fantastic courage and resilience to finish strongly. Like many of her peers, she exemplified the fighting spirit we hope our runners show. Well done to all the girls.
In the boys race, we had our strongest team out for quite some time. Joseph Stringer had a storming finish to claim 12th place just ahead of the talented Matthew Greenwood and Harry Bayman. Young Jake Royle showed typical assurance in carving his way through the field for yet another top 20 finish. Like his older brother, he will no doubt challenge for medals within his own age category in years to come. Our remaining boys battled well, many in private duels all the way to the line. Congratulations and thank you to each and every one of them for their excellent efforts.
As ever, a big thank you on behalf of school to all our competitors and to their families for the magnificent support! We couldn't do it without you.
Our full results can be found below. Videos and photographs of each race can be found by scrolling down. Thank you to Mr Lyth for help with filming.
With one final race of this series to go, our girls team are in 1st place with our boys team in 3rd place.
Millie Bayman is also in 1st place in the individual girls competition.
Positions are very close however and we need as many runners as we can for the finale on Saturday 08 October 2016.
