27 February 2017
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Mr Bernard Pennington, a serving governor at James Brindley and a former Chair of Governors. Mr Pennington was unwell and was admitted to hospital two weeks ago. Sadly, Mr Pennington lost his battle with infection and passed away on Thursday 23rd February. Mr Pennington held many civic roles in Salford, most notably as Lord Mayor of the City during Millennium year and as Chair of Salford Council’s Finance Committee from 1986 - 1998, but he always reserved great affection for and commitment to the children that attend James Brindley Community Primary School. Mr Pennington followed his mother as Chair of Governors at our school and like her, never lost sight of the need to strive for the best education possible for the children of this parish. We extend condolences to Bernard’s two daughters and his wider family. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed in equal measure.
